Located in the heart of the Sustainability District, Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion was originally built for Expo 2020 Dubai. Designed by the renowned Grimshaw Architects, this architectural marvel is a permanent legacy structure, continuing to serve as an immersive educational venue long after the Expo. Officially opened to the public in 2021, Terra has since undergone a careful transition to become part of Expo City Dubai, evolving into a multi-functional property that hosts a variety of exhibitions, educational experiences, and sustainability-driven events. With a core focus on environmental awareness and action, it is both an exhibition pavilion and a platform for advocacy. Its unique design, highlighted by a striking 130-metre wide solar canopy supported by 4,912 solar panels and 18 Energy Trees, generates 4GWh of clean energy per year, enough to charge over 900,000 mobile phones. Complementing its renewable energy strategy, Terra also features innovative greywater recycling and irrigation systems, reducing landscape water use by 75%.The Pavilion invites visitors to embark on a journey for our planet and our shared future. Through interactive exhibitions and storytelling, it prompts reflection on human impact on the Earth—from forest degradation to ocean pollution—encouraging guests to be inspired to fight climate change. Visitors can wander through forest roots, dive into ocean depths, and see Earth's wonders corrupted, all while exploring real-world innovations that combat climate threats. Terra has a total capacity of several hundred visitors at a time, though its seasonal peak hours (from October to March) attract the largest audiences. It is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00, except on designated closed days. The Pavilion offers family-friendly facilities, with educational installations suitable for all ages. There are no traditional accommodations on-site, but its proximity to the broader Expo City Dubai ensures access to hospitality services. Terra stands not only as an architectural and environmental landmark but as a call to action, inviting all visitors to make their own pledge to ensure a sustainable future for all.
